CEC offers an incentive for installing a ducted heat pump and having your ducting sealed to keep you comfortable in your home.
How Much is the Financial Incentive?
CEC is offering a rebate for the installation of a new heat pump and for duct sealing. Both new and existing homes can qualify, but new homes can only qualify for the variable speed heat pump upgrade rebate and no duct sealing.
Homes with two independent ducted heating systems may be eligible for a rebate on each system.

How To Get Started
The ducted heat pump must be installed by a licensed contractor and the equipment must be AHRI certified.
- Get some installation estimates from a few HVAC contractors. Tell the contractors you want to participate in CEC’s rebate program and have that noted on your proposal. This will ensure that they install it according to CEC program requirements and installation best practices.
- Your contractor will provide you with a heat load calculation on your home, a balance point graph, documentation of the size of backup heat if electric, AHRI specification sheet, and a completed CEC rebate application to be submitted for project pre-approval.
- Once pre-approval is granted by CEC, the contractor installs the heat pump system. Upon completion you will then submit a copy of the county mechanical permit, a copy of your final invoice, and photos of the installation to CEC.
- A CEC representative will review the information packet and potentially set up an inspection visit to ensure the unit is installed properly.
- If any issues are found during an inspection of the paperwork or the installation a CEC representative will let you know what needs correction before the rebate is paid. Once the installation and paperwork are in order CEC will send you a check.
Duct Sealing Steps
Here are the steps for duct sealing:

This will ensure that they install it according to CEC program requirements. Please note that duct sealing is only for existing homes, not new homes.
- If you are having your ducting sealed at the same time as a new heat pump installation, then just submit the prescriptive duct seal application with your heat pump paperwork. Otherwise, you will submit it with the rebate application and a copy of the invoice once the work is completed.
- A CEC representative will review the information packet and potentially set up an inspection visit to ensure the sealing was installed properly.
- If any issues are found during an inspection of the paperwork or the installation a CEC representative will let you know what needs correction before the rebate is paid.
- Once the installation and paperwork are in order CEC will send you a check.
Please note: Programs are subject to change without notice. All projects must receive pre-approval to be eligible for the financial incentive. Rebates $250 and under will be credited to a member’s bill. If there are any past due balances owed to CEC rebates will be credited to member’s account. Applicant certifies that they are not excluded, disqualified, or debarred from receiving federal assistance and are not on the Federal Suspension and Debarment list.
