Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) selected Atticus Lau from Realms High School to represent CEC on the 2024 Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., this month.
A gardener, 3D model builder, and a local Boy Scout senior patrol leader, Atticus looks forward to the journey life brings. He is working toward his Eagle Scout rank and enjoys being part of his troop’s leadership and the outdoor adventures the scouts offer. When not at school or scouts, Atticus enjoys participating in the gardening club, board game club, cooking, and printing 3D models. He has a thirst for knowledge and loves exploring the world around him.
“Atticus demonstrated in his application and essay a strong curiosity about electric cooperatives and desire to enhance his knowledge about our nation’s government and the legislative process,” says Brent ten Pas, CEC vice president of member and public relations. “We are excited for him to learn, meet fellow students, and develop leadership skills.” The Youth Tour, an all-expenses-paid leadership experience, is an annual weeklong event in June and offered by electric cooperatives to high school juniors from their co-op membership. Youth Tour winners visit the Smithsonian Institution, Arlington National Cemetery, and other national monuments. They also have an opportunity to visit with senators and representatives.
