Though winter is in full swing, it’s never too late to take action and equip your home with energy-efficient solutions. Improving efficiency not only keeps your home comfortable this season but will also save you energy through spring, summer, and fall.
Energy efficiency is a collective effort. At Central Electric Cooperative (CEC), we are expanding our investments in energy-efficiency programs not only for our residential members but also for agriculture, commercial, and industrial businesses. For every dollar CEC invests in energy efficiency, the return is roughly $2—delivering positive economic value to the communities we serve while also helping keep your rates low at home.
In fact, our energy-efficiency initiatives offset $2.4 million annually—about 18% of our power purchases from our energy provider, Bonneville Power Administration—helping reduce costs for members while supporting sustainable energy use. These investments help the cooperative align with Oregon’s renewable portfolio standards, which require CEC to meet 5% of our total load with the state’s defined renewable energy.
Together, through smart energy choices and cooperative action, we can maximize savings, reduce demand, and strengthen the sustainability of our region’s electric system.
There’s no better time than now to embrace energy efficiency, and your participation makes a difference year-round. Many CEC members have benefited from our numerous energy-efficiency programs to help them get ready for any weather season. Why not you?
Here’s how:
- Take advantage of a CEC home energy audit. If you live in a manufactured home or a site-built home built before 1993, CEC offers free home energy audits to help you identify your most cost-effective home upgrades.
- Upgrade to a heat pump water heater. These water heaters can save you more than 60% on the water-heating portion of your electricity bill. The heat pump water heater pulls air from the surrounding space, extracts heat from it, and transfers it to the water tank via a refrigerant coil. CEC offers a $1,000 rebate on heat pump water heaters.
- Check out our weatherization rebates. CEC offers insulation and window rebates to members living in older, electrically heated homes. Rebates vary by project, and project materials must meet program requirements.
- Look into a heat pump rebate. In an electrically heated home, the heating system accounts for half of the home’s annual energy use. The most impactful way to lower your bill and get comfortable heating and cooling is through a heat pump. If switching from a standard electric furnace, you could see a 50% drop in heating costs. Rebates vary by project and range from $200 to $3,200.
- See if you can benefit from our income-qualified programs. CEC offers an income-qualified home energy upgrade program. Qualified members may upgrade their insulation, appliances, heating, and cooling systems at no cost.
