The Prepaid Program does not require a security deposit and allows members to pay on their electric accounts as they choose. Paper bills are eliminated and web technology is used to communicate balances and usage. Participants have the same rates and capital credit benefits as traditional post pay members. The current program is available to any member with a 200 ampere single phase service.

If a deposit is currently held on your account, it will be credited towards your balance. If this creates a credit balance, this will be applied toward future power purchases.

Your current charges will be calculated from the last time your account billed to the day of set-up on the program and added to your account balance.

If you have made a contract payment arrangement with the credit department, your percentage payment amount will be deducted from any payment. Example, if your percentage is 30% and you make a $100 purchase, $30 will go toward your outstanding balance and $70 toward future power use.

Managing Your Account*

It is your responsibility to monitor and maintain your account balance. When your account credit falls below $20, you will receive a notification by e-mail, text or both (as you have designated). If you choose the text option, you will need to access your account online to set this up as a notification. You will then be sent a verification number that you will need to confirm. You may also customize the dollar amount that will generate the notifications if the standard $20 is too low or high based on your preference.

It is your responsibility to update your prepaid account with current and correct contact information for low balance alerts. Central Electric will not delay disconnect due to inaccurate alert notice addressing.

If your account no longer has a credit balance or has a balance of zero ($0.00), your meter will automatically disconnect during the next disconnect period. Automatic Disconnect Periods will only occur Monday through Thursday after 1:00 p.m., (excluding holidays) for accounts not brought to a credit balance by 12:45 p.m. on that day.

If your credit balance runs out during a period of time that meters do not disconnect, you will accrue a negative balance and receive your notification alerts. Your meter will then disconnect during the next disconnect period if a payment has not been made to establish a credit balance.

If your meter disconnects due to a zero ($0.00) or a negative balance, you must bring your account to a credit balance before your meter will automatically reconnect. We recommend bringing your account to at least a $20 credit balance. You acknowledge and agree that by making payment, you are authorizing Central Electric to immediately reconnect electric service and that the premises are safe for reconnection. Once your payment posts to your account, service to the premises should reconnect within 15 minutes. You agree to assume all liability and hold Central Electric harmless from any loss, injury or damage that may be caused by reconnection of electric service. If service is not restored after that time period, please contact our office. There will be some periods of time during non-business hours (11:45 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.) when posting may not immediately occur due to system programs that must run periodically.

It is understood that you will notify Central Electric if you are closing your account at least 3 days prior to disconnect. If an account is disconnected and does not re-activate within 5 days, the account will be considered closed, unless you have notified us that the account will be off for an extended period. If the account closes, the meter will not reactivate unless you contact us. In case of a rental property, the landlord/owner may be notified if the account closes.

Prepaid accounts bill daily at 11:15 a.m. and also go through a regular monthly billing. All fixed charges (facility charge, security lights, etc) are prorated based on 30 days of use and subtracted on a daily basis. Your daily balance, kWh use, estimated daily use and estimated days of service left can be viewed from your SmartHub account on our website, or if available from the Smart Hub Phone App for iPhones and Androids.

Purchases can be made in person at any of our offices with cash, check, debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express) during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Credit or debit card purchases can be made through your SmartHub account, or by phone, (541) 548-2144, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you need to make a cash payment after business hours, you may purchase a pre-paid credit card at a local retailer and then go online or phone in a purchase.

Purchases made by mail are not credited until received at the Central Electric office, which could take up to a week. In the case of a low credit balance, a more immediate form of purchase may be necessary to keep your meter from disconnecting during the next disconnect period.

Returned checks or credit/debit card failures will result in a $25 return fee being applied to your account immediately along with the returned item amount. If this brings your account to a zero ($0.00) balance, this will result in disconnection of service during the next disconnect period.

Any Neighbor Impact pledges received by Central Electric will be immediately available for your power usage. If you are in need of a disconnect notice to take with you to an assistance appointment, please contact us.

Termination of Agreement*

If you choose to convert back to a traditional post pay billing account, a deposit may be required. If you have been on the Prepaid Program for 12 months without allowing your meter to disconnect, no deposit will be required. In either case, any outstanding balances must be paid in full before the conversion back to traditional post pay billing.

If service is permanently terminated at your request, you will receive a refund of any remaining credit on the account, unless there is still a past due amount being recovered. In that case, the credit applies to the past due first.

Central Electric shall not be liable for any loss, injury, or damage resulting from automatic disconnection or reconnection of service. Central Electric shall not be liable or responsible for notifying the landlord of the status of the service.
